coronavirus (covid-19)

Below you will find answers to questions that customers have inquired about in recent weeks.

If you have additional questions, feel free to contact the Utility Commission staff at (262) 248-2311 or email us at info@lgutilities.org

I was affected by COVID-19 and my business/home was unoccupied, but we're going to be reopening soon, is there anything to be aware of before we go back to normal occupancy?

We have additional information dedicated to the reopening of businesses and homes that may have been shut down or unoccupied for an extended period of time. You can find additional information on our Reopening Guidelines page.

Can I contract COVID-19 from drinking my water?

There is no evidence that indicates COVID-19 virus is transmitted through water supplies. According to the EPA, COVID-19 is susceptible to disinfection processes, and our standard water treatment and use of chlorine is a highly effective method of disinfection. Customers should continue their water use for hand washing, cooking, bathing and other household activities.

Should I buy bottled water?

The municipal water supply in Lake Geneva continues to be safe and there's no reason to use bottled water at this time. By continuing to use the municipal water supply, you can make sure that bottled water remains available to areas that are experiencing true drinking water emergencies.

What is being done to protect our water supply and sanitary systems?

The Water and Wastewater Utilities operate under the regulation of Wisconsin DNR and we are structured to provide reliable service to our customers, even in the most adverse circumstances. Our staff remains dedicated to monitoring and maintenance activities to ensure that the municipal drinking water system continues to deliver safe and reliable water to every house and business and that the sanitary sewer system continues to safeguard public health and environmental protection.

What should I do if I can't pay my bill?

We understand that these may be extraordinary and stressful times for our customers and we are doing what we can to minimize the financial impacts. Customers are encouraged to contact the Utility Office and check in with one of our representatives on your account status. They will be able to assist in arranging alternate payment plans for your account.

What would happen if one or more of the Utility staff becomes affected by COVID-19, will I still have water and sewer service?

Water and sewer services remain essential to everyday life, as such we are well prepared to manage our responses accordingly. We have enacted our emergency response plan and continue to evaluate our activities according to the most up to date information.
